The Queensland Marine Turtle Network (QMTN) is inviting nominations for positions on the QMTN Management Committee.
The mission of Queensland Marine Turtle Network (QMTN) is to support the people and organisations delivering on-ground action to monitor, protect, and conserve marine turtles and their environments in Queensland. We exist to better connect efforts and learnings across groups committed to caring for turtles to further amplify the collective work of many.
The QMTN has a voluntary Management Committee (Committee), elected by QMTN Member Organisations. Details are outlined in the QMTN Governance and Operational Framework and the Management Committee Terms of Reference.
Terms for this first-ever round of Management Committee nominations are 18 months or 3 years.
To nominate for the Committee, you must be part of a QMTN Member Group. Please discuss within your organisation prior to nominating, as while Committee Members are not representing their organisation, but bringing their skills and experience to benefit the network as a whole, only one person from each member group can nominate. The intent is to enable a broad range of perspectives and views on the Committee.
Management Committee
The QMTN Management Committee enables delivery of QMTN’s mission and key work areas, by overseeing the delivery of the QMTN operations, including oversight for the Coordinator.
Committee members bring unique skills and experience, as well as reflect the diverse groups and interests in turtle work. They do not represent their member organisation, but instead support strong governance, and oversight to ensure QMTN strategy and activities benefit the broader network.
The Management Committee will consist of seven to nine people. In addition, two representatives from DETSI will have observer status (standing membership) for the Management Committee. Additional observers or guests can attend the meeting at the request of the Management Committee.
Where possible, we aspire to support representatives working across a geographic spread of locations in Queensland.
The QMTN Coordinator will act as secretariat for the Management Committee.

The tasks for elected Management Committee members include:

Expectations of Management Committee Chair
The Chair is elected by the Management Committee, to act as the day-to-day conduit between the Management Committee and the QMTN Coordinator as well as being appointed as the QMTN’s delegated spokesperson for the Management Committee.
Management Committee skills
Committee members are expected to bring their unique experiences, skills and perspectives to enable QMTN goals and benefit the wider collective network.
