At the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI), the Threatened Species Operations, Aquatic Research and Monitoring Team (AR&M) oversees the Queensland Turtle Conservation Program, working collaboratively with Citizen Scientists in the collection of data and conduction of conservation actions relevant to the conservation of marine turtles.

Citizen Scientists operating under an “Agreement to undertake Specified (Turtle Research -Monitoring and nest protection) Activities on behalf of the Chief Executive of the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation” report on activities conducted under these authorities annually, or within a month of expiry of these authorisations.

Previously the data captured and reported by Citizen Scientists was provided to Dr Col Limpus as Chief Scientist – Threatened Species Operations. Following his retirement from the DETSI in December of last year, AR&M has yet to provide advice on the appropriate recipient for this data.

We would like to advise our members, that going forward, reporting on activities undertaken as a Citizen Scientist of the Queensland Turtle Conservation Program, and queries relating to the QTCP program, should be sent to turtle.volunteers@detsi.qld.gov.au.
